What NOT To Do Before Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a procedure that can provide you a hair-free existence. It is the best way to remove your unwanted hair effectively and throw away your razors, waxing etc. However, this is not a treatment that you can decide to do it in one moment.

There are some steps you should take in order to prepare for a laser hair removal treatment before you book your first appointment with a clinic. Let’s see some of them below.

Prepare Your Hair For Laser Removal

Till now, you probably wax, depilate, bleach or tweeze in order to remove your unwanted hair. For at least 4 weeks prior your first session you should stop doing all that. If you use hair removal with threadening method, stop doing it at least 10 days prior your first appointment. Don’t be shy to go to your appointment with some grown hair on the area you want to be treated. That is why you go for a treatment, it is their job, to see hair and remove it using lasers.

This will help you to have an efficient laser hair removal therapy.

No Sun Exposure

We have many articles in our website says that lasers are attracted to the melanin that is found in your hair and the skin. That is why you should avoid having a tanning, either going to a tanning salon or using special tanning creams. Avoid these at least 2 weeks prior having your first laser hair removal session.

Also, avoid spending long time in sun exposure without the use of a sunscreen with SPF 30+. If you get sunburn, it is something that may affect the results of the treatment and change the way that laser tries to interact with the hair.

For people who have fair skin, it is recommended to avoid any sun exposure for at least 4 weeks prior the treatment. From the other hand, people who have darker skin types the period of no-sun exposure can be only about 3-5 days.

Stop taking Retin-A. If you take oral Retin-A stop taking it for three weeks. If you apply some topical Retin-A, stop applying it for 3-5 days before the treatment.

Furthermore, if you make use of accutane in order to treat skin conditions like acne sto taking it at least 6 months before you start having laser hair removal therapies.

Day of the Laser Treatment

The day before the treatment (24 hours before the session), shave the area that is going to be treated. Having your area shaved will allow the laser treatment to be completed faster and with less pain and discomfort.

Don’t use any makeup, cream, deodorant or lotion before the session.
